The traditions and way of life in the Forest of Elements is different from much, yet pure and honest, a wonderful way to live for many individuals. One who is born there never questions it, thinking they have the best life in the world. In ways, they are right. Even people who come from the outside, the 'real' world, marvel of the beauty of this land and most choose to stay. It's their choice, of course, but what's not to like?
Let us start with the lives of these people and Pegasi. When a human or Pegasus is born, a messenger of whatever village or herd is sent to the opposite species. Once there, they will inquire whether there have been any recent births. If so, the child and foal are brought to meet at the border, and they connect. Now, in times of need, they will assist and defend each other in battle. If a connection is not received at the day of birth, the herd and village will keep each other updated, and the next new arrival will be paired with the already living one.
After that is established, different things happen. The humans are raised in a way any normal child would be, by the parents, grandparents, and sometimes even family friends. The Pegasus will be raised by both their parents if lucky, but sometimes they are raised by one, or the herd's retirees. Pegasi foals are trained as a group, learning the ways of their herd. Humans are trained individually, how to survive and fend for themselves, plus their village.
And also, they are trained for special things. The humans learn how to use the power of fire and ice. Ice Villagers are taught to use spears, and Fire Villagers bows and arrows. Not much is recorded about what they can do, but you will see for yourself in battle.
The Pegasi are taught how to use their Fire and Ice forms, where they transform into beings of pure power. It is rumored that they are able to control Fire and Ice around them, with great speed and precision.
At the tender age of 15 for the humans, 5 for the Pegasi, a ceremony is held, converting them to full members of their herd or village. They will then care for their home under their leader, bring food to their family and to those that need it, and battle in times of disaster. It is considered a very special day for those involved, and they often meet with their Connections afterwords to celebrate.
Are there ceremonies for the joining of two people or Pegasi in love, you ask? The answer is yes. There is a small, humble, but nice marriage for the humans, and a ceremony of almost the same things for the Pegasi.
Now for the issue of food. The humans, as you already know, are omnivores, which means they need to find meet and greens, fruits, all of that. The Fire Village's main prey are gazelle, the Ice Village hunt mostly buffalo. They, like Native Americans, use them to their full potential, using them for blankets, clothes, food, tools, and all sorts of things. Food is also harvested, and is sometimes shared with the Pegasi.
The Pegasi mostly graze, but once a year a group, selected by the leader, ventures out of the forest, to where fruit grows in plentiful bunches. After taking as much as they can with them, they store it in the caves, where it lasts, sometimes for as much as a year with the right conditions.
Now you know almost all there is to know about life in the Forest of Elements. Am I missing anything? You will just have to find out for yourself. Venture into our land.
